Through our team’s interactive workshops, pupils will have an opportunity to actually play a steel procession instrument. In so doing, we play for Caribbean nights, private parties, wedding receptions, corporate events, product and project launches etc. Undeniably it is important to realise, however, that their business is not- nor should it be- to play at a private event for a professional fee. Some of Solid Steel’s players over the years became professional-level players having once played in community steel bands. The reason for this is that a community steel band is open to everyone regardless of their musical ability. On the other hand playing music professionally should require a level of talent that’s exceptional and unrepresentative of most amateurs.
People are enthralled by this unique acoustic instrument, which can adapt and cover a multitude of hit songs. Quoted as having a “vacation effect”, a steel band has the ability to take you from your dull location to a Caribbean beach as the sun sets, instantly triggering memories of mojitos, sunglasses and carnivals. For some, steel bands are melodic and soothing, for others, they are exciting and passionate - that is the magic of steel bands, they are adaptable to any audience type.

Metronomes plays an important role in the local Caribbean community. It brings families together, helping to reduce social isolation especially amongst the elderly and single parents. We have lots of project ideas being worked on that I believe will help keep the band and the wider Metronomes family united during these difficult times. Our band always arrives one our event two hours to set up before the event start. The Trinidadian Music ensemble is primarily composed of steel idiophones such as steel pans, which are made from the bottoms of 55-galon oil barrels.
